Trap making! Help (and learn) how to make DOC 200 traps

May 19 @ 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Trap making ARRG June 2015

We have received funding to make 100 traps for the Ashley River estuary, with the not-so long term goal of re-introducing kaki to the estuary. Making that many traps is no small task and will probably need two days work (not counting the preparation relative to trap purchase and timber cutting). Fortunately, our ARRG trapping expert, Geoff Swailes, is still prepared for us to make use of his garage in Loburn, where we have made hundreds of traps to date.

The date planned for our first day’s work is now Saturday May 19, and we may try to do the Sunday as well, in order to complete the job ASAP.

Geoff lives at 10 Glenbrae Place, Loburn – the first side road on the right after you cross the Makerikeri river heading west on Dixons road through the Loburn area. This turn-off is a tricky one as it is off a short straight – so take care. Once in Glenbrae Place, Geoff’s drive is the one straight ahead after you pass all the letter boxes on the right.

We need as many of you as possible, even if it is only for a few hours. This is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and learn about trap making.

Bring your own lunch and ear muffs. Also, if you have them – hammer and wire cutters (for mesh cutting), any power drill (not vital). There are jobs for just pairs of hands.
